    1. the illustrations in this book are beautifully drawn and the book itself so lovingly designed. as an object, it is 5 stars for how it pleases the eye and feels in the handse story itself pleased me somewhat less. it is my understanding that this is a picture book adaptation of an animated film, and it might have simply lost some of its potency in the medium-switch. it claims to be about a philosophical little hedgehog on his way to meet with his friend Bear, but i don't really get the philosophi [...]

    2. My library has this book in Chinese. The author's name is transliterated as Suogei Kouziluofu.Although there don't appear to be that many words, the book is kind of surreal without them. Why are disembodied animals heads looming out of the fog at the hedgehog? Is symbolism?

    4. Kozlov creates as story here about determination and friendship as Hedgehog brings his jam to his friend bear's house. The fog and the animals who populate it seem to be both alluring and menacing as they try to distract Hedgehog from his journey, but the entire time Hedgehog remembers the affection he has for his friend and anticipates the fun they will have together. He is a level-headed character and the voice of reason throughout the story. The images are subtle and draw the reader into the c [...]

    6. A beautiful children's book that began with the illustrations by Francesca Yarbusova, the wife of Yuri Norstein who created a prize winning animated film with them. Sergey Kozlov wrote the story and the three talented Russians have brought out the book. What can be more mystical or frightening or adventuresome than getting lost in fog in the night on a walk through the woods and across the fields on your way to a friends house to count the stars? A heartwarming story of a 'little guy' running in [...]

    8. "In the evenings Hedgehog would go over to Bear's house to count the stars.Perched on a log they would sip tea and gaze into the starry sky.It hung over the roof, right behind the chimney. The stars to the right of the chimney belonged to Bear. The stars to the left were Hedgehog's."How can you not like that intro to this dark and beautiful story? Huh? Well? This is the English translation of the Russian children's book version of the famous award winning animated short by world renowned animator Y [...]

    9. A kids' picture book for sure, it is nevertheless a delight to any adult who is a fan of the Hedgehog in the Fog award-winning animation film (declared The Best Animated Film of All Time in 2003 by an international jury in Tokyo). Wonderfully weird and quirky, and beautifully illustrated, it is an amazing re-creation of the animation film's feel and atmosphere.Note that an edition of this book exists also in original Russian, so if you can read Russian, be sure to get that instead. And if you pr [...]

    10. This story by Sergei Kozlov is made with stills from my favourite children's animation directed by Yuri Norstein. I used to show the animation to engage pre-readers when I was teaching and it enthralled and amazed them every time. The book is nowhere near as brilliant as the animation because the moving image and the sound effects bring much more atmosphere - which obviously the book can't. It's a wonderful story and has illustrations which capture the imagination - the original artwork by Norst [...]

    11. If you've never seen The Hedgehog in the Fog, do yourself a favor and remedy that right now. Then go find this book and read it. While the translation is a little different from the film, it's still perfectly delightful, and the artwork is comparable.

    13. The cover illustration told me that this gonna be a very special book. And it really IS! Little hedgehog is sooo lovely and cute. Children will adore it and philosophical animal is a collectors must have!

    14. HAve read to my kinds in latvian. Somewhat not really a stories short and somtimes wiht no meaning at all. Maybe this is good, but I feel that there should be at leas some storie behind each story.

    15. Excellent! Finally a childrens book worth reading as a teen/young adult. I strongly believe in the brightness of children. For me to be able to appreciate the book for the representation our natural curiosity makes it worth a reading in the future. If not for the concept- for the aesthetics.

    16. Really great artwork, very mysterious, but the narrative style is also mystifying and left me far from satisfied. 5
