1 thought on “The Traitor Prince”

    1. 3.5 Stars“He was no puppet. By his father’s blood and his own tenacity, he was a prince. A ruler. A god among men. And once he was through carving his destiny out of the blood and bone of those who stood in his way, everyone in Akram would bow before him, his name the prayer they raised as they begged for his mercy.”I haven’t read any of the other books set in the Ravenspire universe, but I might have to go back and check them out now, because I thought that The Traitor Prince was pretty [...]

    2. I received a free egalley of this book via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. Thank you publisher!1/5 StarsWhere do I even start with this book? As excited as I was with the premise, the actual story for me did not deliver. And neither did the writing. From the first page I already had a feeling this was not going to be a book that I was going to end up enjoying. The writing was stagnant, ill-paced, and unimaginative. I’ve read books with beautiful prose and descriptions and this just [...]

    3. This book broke my heart. Which was fully rude of it. But I loved it so very much, despite how broken my heart is. These fairytale retellings are the very best. And this third one was so amazing. I love how every book is a standalone, yet set in the same world around the same time. And small hints from all the other books. This book tells the story of Javan and Sajda. It begins with Javan still at his school, where he have been at all times for the last ten years. Javan is a prince. He is doing h [...]

    4. Thanks to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review, this doesn't in any way influence my opinion on it.The Traitor Prince is all I was expecting and more. C.J. Redwine is an author who I have been super impressed with ever since The Shadow Queen and she just keeps getting better and better. The Traitor Prince continues this amazing series with the story of Javan, a very interesting and compelling character. He is the Crown Prince of Akram, a kingdom he has been away fr [...]

    5. With The Traitor Prince, C.J. Redwine once again delivers an epic fantasy, with aching romance, adventure, heart-pounding injustice, and high stakes as the characters fight for their survival.Prince Javan has spent the last ten years away at school, working harder than all his classmates to fulfil the promise he made to his mother to be the best, learn the most, so that he can become a just and strong ruler. But when he is attacked on the eve of his return home, Javan knows he must now fight for [...]

    6. You know that thrill when you read a book that has EXACTLY the kind of story you like to read? This one had it for me. A heroic young prince betrayed and forced to fight in a brutal arena. A mysterious and powerful slave girl with a hard exterior and a hidden soft heart. A vivid eastern culture. Dragon shape-shifters. Dark elves!Yup, this caught me, hook, line, and sinker. Overall, I would say I was pretty satisfied, buuuuuut my enthusiasm for this story is dampened by several disappointing deat [...]

    7. I really, really enjoyed this one. C.J.'s books are always compulsively readable and fun and action packed and creative - I don't know where she dreamed up some of the things in this book. I loved the slow burn romance and related to Sandja a LOT. The villain and his motives and reasoning were fairly well fleshed out, but I think I still wanted a little more from him. The Wish Granter still is my favorite in the series, but this is second in my heart.

    8. *Source* Edelweiss*Genre* Young Adult, Fantasy*Rating* 3.5-4*Thoughts*The Traitor Prince, by author C.J. Redwine, is the third installment in the Ravenspire series. If you have read the previous two installments, The Shadow Queen and The Wish Granter, you know that the author has used a different set of characters while also recreating certain folktales. Apparently, The Traitor Prince is based on the novel called The False Prince and The Prince and the Pauper. The Traitor Prince doesn't have jus [...]

    9. It would more accurately be a 3.5, I’d say. As with the previous novels in this companion series, I enjoyed Redwine’s spin on fairytales and fairytale tropes. I liked her characters a lot (particularly Sajda) too. But I did feel like this one suffered a wee bit from a villainous character (or two) who didn’t particularly impress me; it certainly made me feel a little less sympathetic about the stakes (even with all the intense things that happen). I still thought this was enjoyable, and th [...]

    10. Ok. I’m starting a new rating system. Don’t think this book is trash just because I gave it 3 stars. It was good but do predictable and I found myself skimming some. Definitely not as good as the other 2.

    11. ✨This book have so many good reviews that I just had to put it in my Want to Read shelf.✨ I really like the premise, and hope the book is just has good.

    13. MY RATING: 3/5 STARS I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The Traitor Prince is a highly anticipated book that follows in the Ravenspire series but can be completely read standalone. I never read the first two books in this story and understood this one completely. It tells the story of Javan, a prince that has been studying rigorously for the past 10 years in a special school for princes because he wants to honor his late mother's wishes and bring pride and j [...]

    14. 3.5/5 * Full review here: allcharacterswanted/bThis is the third book in Redwine's series of companion novels; the concept really intrigued me as she reimagines classic fairytales and creates a new world for them to belong too. This time we are introduced to a retelling of "The Prince and the Pauper", as Javan struggles to prove that he is the true prince and remove the imposter who has stolen his place. This wasn't my favourite book in the series, but I enjoyed it regardless. I won't pretend th [...]

    15. I won an ARC of this book in a giveaway and I can't wait for the finished hard cover coming in February! The Traitor Prince is a fantastic third installment in the Ravenspire series that rivals my love for The Shadow Queen (Ravenspire #1). This book stands out primarily because it made me smile, and laugh out loud in several scenes, something that doesn't happen often enough when I read. Overall, it's one of the best books I've read this year.Javan is a fantastic, well-rounded character. He doesn [...]

    16. Gah, I love this series so much! It's been hard to pick a favourite book so far, seeing as I read THE WISH GRANTER last week and was completely entranced by it, but THE TRAITOR PRINCE just might have taken the top spot! The story was engaging and interesting right from the get-go, and it was a huge adventure from there. The characters were fantastic! Javan was the kind of person you constantly wanted to cheer for (and who can slay monsters like nobody's business). Sajda is a super tough girl wit [...]

    17. WOW! This series is my favorite series of all!??????? Like, they got me with the dragons and mardushkas and faeries, but a traitor prince AND *spoiler alert* ELF GIRL?! This book just asked me to love it *swoons* I just can’t wait to have the FOURTH book!!!!

    18. Review:Protagonists: Javan has spent the last ten years of his life doing everything he can to be the best student at the Milisatria and fulfill his mother's dying wish that he be the best student so he can be the best King for Akram. That is until an imposter takes his place and he finds himself in Maqbara, a terrible prison where he is forced to fight in a deadly tournament to win an audience with his father and hopefully put all this treachery to rest. There he meets Sajda, the warden's slave [...]

    19. Originally reviewed for YA Books Central: yabookscentral/yafictiAn adventurous, accessible YA fantasy—with likely appeal for fans of An Ember In The Ashes.Based loosely on an Arabic folktale called The False Prince, this stand-alone book centers on the kingdom of Akram—with interwoven references to the kingdoms and characters from The Shadow Queen and The Wish Granter. Redwine’s prose shows notable development in this 3rd installment of her retold fairytale series. The Traitor Prince offer [...]

    20. If you wish to skip to certain parts of the review covering specific topics, look for thebold words! Also, there are NO SPOILERS AHEADI’ve always loved C. J. Redwine’s writing, and I am a huge fan of her Ravenspire series. The Traitor Prince did not disappoint! 21. Wow, I love Redwine's fairytales so much. This one is so reminiscent of The Shadow Queen, down to the characters and the relationship that slowly builds. Prince Javan seems a little distant and religious at first. He is obsessed with his grades in the school he's been attending for the past ten years at his mother's last wish. He seems very burdened by his duty and responsibilities to his kingdom. But once his cousin Rahim decides to hatch a plan with some fellow usurpers to take over his father [...]

    22. I was happy to have the chance to read an ARC of this book from the publisher, because I so enjoyed Shadow Queen and Wish Granter. Needless to say, I dove riiiiiiight on in!For me, the book went like this: Catch my interestWho's the bad guyWait are you the bad guy?OMG Break my heartPut it back togetherBreak my heartPut it back togetherBREAK my freaking heartFix it againY'all this book is gonna mess with your emotions. Redwine winds her stories together like intricate tapestries, and it's a privi [...]

    23. I won this ARC through a giveaway.Aladdin meets Prince and the PauperThis wasn't a bad book, but it kind of missed a few marks. Javan is the real prince. He's supposed to be the best at pretty much everything, especially strategy. But when he really needs to use strategy, he turns into an idiot, (view spoiler)[like when he found out there was an imposter who was on his way back home to his father, and Javan raced back to Akram (home), he actually could have beaten the imposter to his father, an [...]

    24. I really enjoyed The Shadow Queen and The Wish Granter, so there was no way I wasn't going to experience The Traitor Prince. The Ravenspire series are companion novels so you can read any of them separately. The Traitor Prince is a retelling of The False Prince and The Prince and the Pauper. But Redwine's retellings are very loose. This one, like the others, is action-packed and filled with quite a bit of violence.Javan, the real prince, has been away at school for ten years. While there, his fat [...]
