    1. My reviews can also be seen at: deesradreadsandreviews.wordpr3.5 Stars! Joanna Berrigan is blow drying her hair when she notices that the outside motion sensor light has been activated. She hopes it’s not her friend stopping by as she’s not in the mood for company. She just wants to relax with a hot cup of tea and a good book. She relaxes when the outside light goes off again. As she makes her way downstairs however, she hears noisescoming from inside the house.Just then a figure stops out o [...]

    2. This one had a really great premise, but I think it just wasn't for me. I struggle with reading books where there are two POVs that tell the exact same details of each scene, so it felt very repetitive and caused me to not fully immerse myself in the suspense. I found the ending to be a bit ridiculous and far-fetched, which was disappointing because it felt the authors were going for outlandish twists solely to deter the reader from solving the mystery, not to further the plot or accentuate it i [...]

    3. A mesmerizing, truth-finding psychological thriller that was both fast-paced and addictive! The ultimate he said/she saidwith alternating narratives. Who to believe? Joanna and her fiance, Erik have been living together and things are going well until a stranger walks through her door one evening! Joanna's first impulse is to run, hide, or call the police, but wait.Erik is telling her they are engaged! Erik will try to prove to her that he is telling the truth, but who can she trust?A lot of clue [...]

    4. 2.5 Interesting premise. A woman hears someone in her house, she lives alone and has no one to help her. There is a an, a man who claims he lives with her, in fact her fiance, the trouble is she doesn't remember him, and nothing of his in her her house. Strange, right? Promising?Unfortunately for me, I felt what follows is one contrived cat and mouse game, one preposterous scenario after another. Yes, it is fast paced, a quick read. However, I really felt nothing for these characters, and so man [...]

    5. Strangers begins as Joanna is home alone finishing up her shower when someone is at the door but she ignores it only to hear someone moving inside her home. When confronting the stranger in her home, Erik, he claims to actually be Joanna's fiance all the while she is sure that she does not know him and he must be some kind of stalker that is after her or her father's money. Just these opening pages alone completely hooked me into this book to where I did not want to put it down at all. Who is [...]

    6. I LOVED this book!!!📚💖😄 It had me hooked from the first few pages! I read this psychological thriller in one or two sittings and wanted more! This story was told from a dual perspective of Joanna and Erik! I was at the edge of my seat and kept on guessing throughout the story what was going on!!? The story was action packed and would make a fantastic film in my opinion!🎬💖😎 This book was Dani approved.I was provided a copy from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an hon [...]

    7. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 / 5Strangers is told in split narrative form using Joanna and her "fiance" Erik's perspectives. The chapters were super short, which I loved, but the split narrative was bringing me down at the beginning. I love the idea of a split narrative, but the only problem in this scenario is that I did NOT love that it was the exact same scene just from the other person's perspective. Having to go through everything twice seemed really tedious and unnecessary. However, that did end [...]

    8. STRANGERS by Ursula Archer, Arno Strobel - Thank you so much to Minotaur for providing my free copy. This was an odd duck of a book. The things I loved about this book would’ve easily made it a five star read but what I didn’t like dropped the rating down significantly. Here’s what I loved: the writing style. The structure of the novel included alternating points of view from Joanna and Erik and it is SO compelling. Yes, they are of the same situation from different perspectives, but that [...]

    9. Barely 3 stars.Strangers started off with a lot of promise, but it got really messy and ridiculously implausible. Joanna is at home alone, when a man she doesn’t recognize comes into her home with his own key and tries to convince her that he is her fiancé. The set up is very clever as Joanna and Erik move back and forth between doubting each other and themselves. It’s especially clever because the narration consists of short chapters alternating between Joanna and Erik’s points of view. [...]

    10. Just when you think that you've read every type of thriller-mystery novel plot possible, Ursula Archer and Arno Strobel throw us a curveball with Strangers. Seriously, if you think the show 24 has too much non-stop chaos, you haven't seen anything yet. The story starts off with Joanna Berrigan, daughter of one of the richest people in Australia, residing in her house in Germany. Joanna is in the midst of talking to her friend Ela about her friend's deadbeat boyfriend Richard and getting ready fo [...]

    11. Joanna is fresh out of her shower and taking solace in the fact that she's going to curl up on the couch with a good book and a glass or two of wine for a relaxing evening. Sounds perfect! Except from her bathroom window she notices her sensor light outside has gone on and someone has entered her house. She panics. She has to figure out what to do. She decides to investigate. Maybe this was all her imagination but it's not because there is a stranger in her home. A man she's never seen before. S [...]

    12. Joanna is home alone when a man shows up in her house. She panics since she doesn't know him. He tells her he is her fiancé, Erik, and lives there with her, except there are no signs that he lives there. No clothes. No toiletries. Nothing. As they try to figure out what is going on, they discover they are both in great danger. The story is told from both Joanna and Erik's points of view. I liked the alternating chapters of different viewpoints. It helped fill in blanks as to what was happening. [...]

    13. Strangers starts off really well, and then gets all "romantic" and far-fetched. I should have known this plot description was too good to be true. I was so interested in seeing what was going to happen, but it went completely off the rails. I read Ursula Archer's Five, and really enjoyed it, so I was excited for this one. The ending didn't even really make sense, and I think they took on too much trying to write this book. Anyway, I really liked the first half, and then I'm still angry about the [...]

    14. A big thanks to Minotaur Books for the copy in exchange for my honest review! This was my first book by Ursula Archer and I absolutely loved it! 2018 is the year to branch out into more authors and genres - this is a German thriller and it was definitely different than the Scandinavian crime thrillers we're all used to. This he said/she said thriller had a great and original vibe to it!What would you do if a man you do not recognize tells you that he's your fiance? Do you believe him? This is Joa [...]

    15. Strangers by Ursula Archer and Arno Strobel is a highly recommended thriller.Joanna Berrigan is home alone when she finds a stranger in her house. He has let himself in with a key and claims he is her fiancé. The problem is that Joanna has never seen this man before. He claims he lives with her, but there is no trace of anyone else living in her house. Joanna ends up spending the night locked in the pantry while the stranger spends the night outside the pantry door. Joanna also is having these [...]

    16. The Strangers poses the familiar-in-fiction question of what would you do if everything you thought you knew changed in a single instant? If suddenly you had no idea who to trust or what to believe, including yourself or your own memories? But this isn't your usual tale, and for Joanna Berrigan and Erik Thieben, it's their worst nightmare: she wakes up to find a strange man in her house claiming to be her fiancé that lives there, too, and he comes home to a house devoid of all of his belongings [...]

    17. I did it, I finally finished Strangers and no doubt it was strange. Translated from German to English may have caused it to lose some of its intensity. But I felt like this book was predictable and I was bored. Although, this would make for a good movie. I think it would be the speed and intensity would be easier conveyed this way. Joanna is getting ready for bed one night when all of the sudden someone enters her home. She confronts the suspect and he claims to be her fiancé. The chapters boun [...]

    18. Lately, I have been feeling the need to expand my reading repertoire and read something a little bit different than my usual. So, when I received Strangers, a German noir novel by Ursula Archer and Arno Strobel, I was thrilled. Not only did this book fit into my Popsugar 2018 Reading Challenge (a book by two authors) and have an amazing cover but also the synopsis had me completely hooked. A woman wakes up without any memory of the strange man who is in her home, claiming to be her fiancé. The [...]

    19. The main premise of Strangers had a Dean Koontz-vibe that is reminiscent of his earlier novels, which is why I choose to read this book.** Minor spoilers below ** Jo is home alone when a man named Erik walks in. She has no idea who he is. He says he's her fiancé but she has no recollection of him. Who is telling the truth? Who is he? Who is she? The POVs switch back and forth from Jo to Erik, detailing how they each deal with the shocking revelation that Jo has no idea who he is. At the same ti [...]

    20. I was completely drawn in by the premise of this book--a woman finds a man in her house who claims to be her fiance, but she can't remember him. I had to know what happened! This was very fast-paced and I flew through it, butunfortunately, other than that, I really did not like it very much. I was expecting a taut psychological thriller, but it was more Dean Koontz-ish--which is not necessarily bad, even though I don't really read much in that vein lately, but it progressed in a much less riveti [...]

    21. Should I say the best thing about this book was the blurb? It took me almost a month to finish reading it. Not that the writing was bad or the characters weren't great, it's just wasn't interesting enough. This could be a great plot for "24".

    22. I loved the premise for this story, and the writing style immediately sucked me in. The setup is eerie in its realism. I wanted to know who these people were, and which one was either lying or crazy. The story is told via short chapters that alternate narrators between Joanna and Erik, both written in first person. Initially this intrigued me, as we get to see things from both characters' perspectives. But soon the content becomes repetitive, with too much detail being rehashed from the other pe [...]

    23. This is a truly surprising novel. I was expecting a psychological thriller but instead got non-stop action with a psychological component and an unexpected ending. Joanna is alone at home when a man breaks in. He says that he is her fiancé, but she doesn't remember him at all. How is it possible? Is he a con man? Is she losing her mind? Discussing the plot any further might spoil the twists, so I will instead highlight my favorite things. Firstly, the characters, Joanna and Erik (the alleged fi [...]

    24. Stick with this one. Who is Erik? Is he Joanna's fiancé? Who is Joanna for that matter? Hmmmm. This could have been an epic fail but the authors have used alternating voices to tell the story from both Erik and Joanna's perspective. Parts of this might seem a bit odd but all in all, it's a well written fast paced tale. My quibble is that I didn't feel a great deal of attachment to Joanna, who should have had my full sympathy. That said, it's also a good opportunity to read a book by internation [...]

    25. 3.5 ⭐️s. A fun, exciting read if you suspend your belief system and just go with it. The story held together pretty well and the ending wrapped up the loose ends nicely. A young engaged couple are living together in Germany. All is well until he comes home one day and she has no idea who he is and all his belongings are gone! What is going on??!! I don’t read too many thrillers, so my bar is not set too high, and I enjoyed the story. Also, it was not too violent.

    26. Few books are able to adequately navigate a dual-narration with the constant back-and-forth character development (Gone Girl is still one of the few success stories). I think that was one of the majority points to the downfall of this book in particular, as there was seemingly too much concern in mimicking the stories between each character, and less attention to developing the story as a whole. There were a lot of good ideas in here, but in the end they failed to come to complete fruition. Ther [...]

    27. Another clunker that sounded good. By the time I was on page 100 it felt like I had read the same dialogue numerous times. Nothing was being accomplished in the story.

    28. “Both of us are sure we’re right, but one of us is living in a world of make-believe right now.”Strangers was the January book club read for the Instagram group BlackHeart Reads. If you’re on Instagram and are interested in joining their monthly reads, click the link and follow their page! It’s always a ton of fun!The premise of this book was intriguing: a woman faces a stranger in her home claiming to be her fiancé. She has no memory of him, to her he is a complete stranger. A man co [...]
