    1. Awful doesn't begin to describe it. Overly political and super dated. It hits you over the head with a political message that makes you think: duh!

    2. A wonderful, enlightening and patriotic play which opened my eyes to the exploitation and disregard faced by the people of the Highlands and Islands to this day.

    3. Read this for my study in class and also saw this in theatre. Absolutely loved it. And I got an A in English ;)

    4. I love reading plays, though all ought to be seen/heard. Some MUST be seen/heard and this one is clearly an audio-visual phenomenon.

    5. Wanted to really like this because of the Scottish context of history and politics but, unfortunately, found it to be a bit dated and overbearing. Enjoyed reading the parts, and the ethos behind it, of taking performance right into the heart of communities.

    6. I wanted to like this more than I did. I'm definitely interested in the subject matter, which is Scottish history, and I'm basically in favor of the socialist point of view the plays takes. But this is a very didactic play, and I'm not a fan of plays that beat the audience over the head with a political message, and this play's basic message was very explicitly: Scottish people must stand together and resist the exploitation of the land and people by capitalism. This is a message with which I'm [...]

    7. Another book I read for my Scottish literature class! As with most drama it's usually better when seen rather than read. It tells through many many characters the sad story of the upper class in Scotland taking advantage of the lower, taking away their land to make room for sheep and more recently to get oil. It's a story that unfortunately is repeated throughout history and not just in Scotland. On the page it can flip between fact and song and character quite quickly and be a bit confusing but [...]

    8. Excellent Excellent Excellent. What more can I say about this legendary play. A perfect, engaging, entertaining satire on foregin exploitation of the Scottish people and resources. Should be a compulsory read for all students interesting in economics, politics and history.
