    3. Didn't think I was going to stick with this book, but it turned out to be fab read :) The story of the complexities of family life was told so well. A surprisingly captivating book :) p.s. I's have stabbed Ken in the head though! lol

    4. This really is the most beautiful book.Nick Alexander has written a story that at times shows the main character, Alice, in a less-than-flattering light, but that honesty is what makes her so identifiable with. She starts to question her marriage, and indeed her whole life, and this sets her off on a new path, one filled with anxieties, and no clear direction. Added to the mix are her two sons. One, living fairly locally, is your fairly typical married-with-two-kids-and-a-mortgage type and on th [...]

    5. The story line I feel is quite basic but it doesn't need to be anything more, because instead the focus is on the family dynamic. There are 3 parts of the book, focusing on the mother and each of her two sons. The characters had a lot of depth and I felt like I was sat in the living room with them. I don't think I've seen in a book before where it shows how other people see you, Alice was so unaware of how others saw her. Finished this book quickly which is always a good sign. It really got me t [...]

    6. Great audio book! An ingenuously crafted story with an emotional, surprising, ending that caught me quite off guard and somewhat stunned! (In a good way!) The combination of Alexander's writing andthe story telling of Imogen Church is a masterful combination. A book I won't soon forget! I highly recommend it! Other books narrated by Imogen Church:The Woman In Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. I highly recommend this one too!

    7. Got better as I progressed through. Family life across different generations from varying viewpoints. Enjoyable although subject matter hardly positive stuff!

Me pareció esperanzador.

    9. An eagerly awaited book and as usual Nick Alexander does not disappoint. A beautifully written, thought provoking read. Highly recommended as always.

    10. Simple story really well told.Thoughtful insight into family life. Must be many out there living in a similar way reminds you how people can see a situation very differently.

    11. not what i expected from the blurb but implies how positive thinking or attitude changes the way we see things if only we can find that influence in our lives.

    12. I loved this book. It put me through a multitude of emotions. Great storyline and well written. This is the 2nd book I've read by this author and I've just bought anothe. love his writing style.

    13. Took a wee while to get going then I loved the ending and how Alices character developed. Nice easy read

    15. I am a big fan of Nick Alexander and this book didn't disappoint. I love the way the book unfolds and we get to know the characters, thinking at first things aren't that bad, just your typical disfunctional family, then you find out what had actually happened over the years. This is a powerful story of family dynamics and how people are affected by the events of the past. The story moves from the English Midlands to France and the evocative description of French village life is just wonderful. I [...]

    16. I wouldn't define this book "gripping"; it's actually quite slow. The style is easy and pleasant to read and for this reason I gave it 3 stars. It tells the story of a family, their issues (domestic violence - there are no heavy descriptions though) and how those issues affected their lives in different ways. There are some interesting ideas and the main character, Alice, evolves throughout the book, however the ending seemed to me a bit too easy and idillic. I preferred other books by the same [...]

    17. I discovered Nick Alexander with The photographer's wife and loved it for its insight, the well built plot and the character's depth. I recommended it many times and to many people. I've just finished The other son and it's short sequel. I enjoyed it all along and I'm very impressed by the characters' truthfulness and the deep understanding of their psychology shown by the author. I hope Nick Alexander will get the success he truly deserves and I strongly recommend these books

    18. Very emotionalThis is the first book I've read by Nick Alexander and I was not sure what to expect. The story grabbed me almost immediately. Alice was an interesting, well developed character who struggled with domestic violence through her life while raising two very different sons - one is a wealthy married man with children, while the other son is the one who will warm your heart and bring the soft human ending of a story. I will certainly read more of Alexander's books.

    19. I absolutely loved this book from start to finish,I didn,t want it to ends a wonderful insight into different relationships within a family and with such believable characters.I Couldn,t stop thinking about it,It has a level of sadness and unhappiness brought about by wrong choices having been made within relationships.I did also find snatches of it humorous though.I now can't wait to read "The Photographers wife"

    20. What a fantastic read. I enjoyed this book, loving it from the very first paragraph. What else can I say? Nick Alexander never fails to deliver a novel that keeps me engrossed. His knowledge of human relationships is second to none and he is a master at making the ordinary sound extraordinary. This book is no exception, never a disappointment, I await the next best seller.

    21. The Other Son5 stars I love it would highly recommend a real page turner. Will read more from this author enjoy all.

    22. This is a very thought provoking look at marriage and family life. It is set in the present and I loved some of the observations about modern life like the trip to Ikea as it is exactly my view of the place. Two sons growing up in a family where the husband is violent and controlling and they deal with this in very different ways. Alice also learns to deal with it but she becomes worn down and struggles to see anything positive in anything. Tim the elder son is married to Natalia , a Russian lad [...]

    23. Interesting but slow storyAs a fan of mystery and thrillers, this book wasn't for me. I can see where people would enjoy it, however. The plot is realistic and relatable, but I spent the whole book waiting for a big twist or revelation that never came. I enjoyed how relatable the characters were, and that there never seemed to be a right or wrong viewpoint between Alice, Tim and Matt. All of the characters were doing what the believed to be right at all times.

Ulises.

    25. Another gripping read Loved this book and will be looking to read more from Nick Alexander. Characters are very believable, it's not a cutesy book, it grans you and makes you not want to put it down until you have finished. It also makes you want to know more. I felt gutted to have finished the book as I wanted to know what happens next.

    26. Nice book. I struggled to identify with Alice due to the age difference. I am not sure if that worked at all. Alice was 69 years old. It has quite an unruly ending. I would like to have seen what it was like a few months done the line. Maybe when she visited Tim and family with her new positive outlook.

    27. I loved this book. I felt the mum was so real and I understood her struggle to come to terms with her situation. The way she dealt with her love for her son's and still trying to keep the man she had married happy. Nick has captured this completely with this book that flowed from page to page. It was a joy to read.
