1 thought on “Hit the Road Jack”

    1. I almost quit this book several times. I think I carried on with it just to see if I was correct about the twist ending. I was, to a point. The nonsensical red herring kicked in very close to the end, along with the inept cops solving the case by doing the exact thing they should have done right at the start of the investigation but somehow completely overlooked. The author desperately needs an editor, and perhaps figure out a few different ways to describe the same action, for example instead o [...]

    2. What could have been a mediocre book turned to the ridiculous when a five year old going on fifty something pointed a gun at his father and gave a diatribe about the evils of murder. Unbelievable as well as predictable. Whereas a good story will grab you by the throat and push you through the pages, Hit The Road Jack sort of ambled along tripping over it's own feet on occasion.

    3. "Unimpressed"It was light on the wicked, and suspenseful. The frantic switching of point-of-view, and time-line made things disjointed and messy. The final outcome was predictable and rushed. I really didn't need the excerpt from another story; by the time I'd finished this one I was done. Nice cover though.

    4. As a fan of mystery/detective stories, I never heard of this author, Willow Rose, and as I understand she’s been writing more in the Horror, Paranormal Romance, and Fantasy genre – and this is her first foray in the temporary detective genre.I like Jack Ryder, Homicide detective for the county sheriff's office of Brevard County, living in Cocoa Beach, a small, quiet beach-town in Florida, bordered by water on both sides; that is the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River, and also by Cape Canav [...]

    5. Another Willow Rose mystery/suspense only this one is set in Florida where a Police detective is caring for his young twins and the teen daughter of his police partner who was killed on the job. Living in working in a small beach town there is little for a Homicide Detective to do until a rash of unusual murders take place. As with her tales set in Denmark, this one has many twists and bounces between the here and now and earlier happenings to some of the characters, but all merging in the prese [...]

    6. Good story.Read many books written by Willow Rose and I'm sure will read the next one in this series. But she needs a good editors, also needs to check it out after book is put on the . One good thing it was free . Yes English is my second language too, and this was my 226th book for this year and I write book reports too.

    7. Not funIt just seemed to be one grizzly murder after another. No real police work. Nothing interesting and the way it was solved was a realization that should have happened immediately on getting the test results.

    8. Hit The Road Jack by Willow Rose is first in a series of “Jack Ryder” books. The novel is divided into three parts. All of it is interesting and an entertaining read but it is in Part III that the action explodes. It was worth reading the first two parts to get there. The end has a series of surprises; two of them are huge in the sense of “no way I could have seen that coming.” I have read four of Willow Rose’s novels in the past so I was not surprised that this one would be about a se [...]

    9. 'Hit the Road Jack' completely took me by surprise, which by this point I shouldn't be surprised with Willow Rose and her story telling abilities. The storyline was well written and well thought up. I've read enough of Willow Rose's books to know that I was in for a treat, again. You'd think by now she would run out of ideas on how deranged people could be, but not the case. The way the story played out was incredibly intense. I really wasn't sure who would make it. I knew Jack would, cause duh, [...]

    10. Suspense all the wayI would have given 4 stars but I give three because of the title and the way the book stops like the author hurried things just to finish! The suspense is such as the more you read, the curious you become while worried you might not remember the characters and their connection! Annie's story is bitter one, she cannot take the blame for a wicked destiny! Victor is a losing party for no choice of his own but a loving heart! Their boy too was an innocent victim of a cruel life A [...]

    11. "Awesome, Unimaginable Thriller"This is another mystery thriller by popular author Willow Rose. Meet Jack Ryder, that is Detective Jack Ryder from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office in Florida. In Cocoa Beach there's a predator on the loose ruthlessly chasing women and then brutally killing them. You'll love Jack Ryder as he attempts to protect his family while pursuing the killer. This is a fast-paced thriller which will engulf you into the mystery. Well written by the Queen of Scream. Loved i [...]

    12. Dark but cozyThis is a cozy mystery with a dark back story playing at the edge. Jack is the copper in a sleepy seaside town. The story opens with a grizzly murder of a woman and more follow. A serial killer is playing havoc with the tourist trade and he must be stopped. Alas poor Jack is about to become hunted not hunter. This is not an intricate story. The twists are sign posted but it is a good read.

    13. I can't begin to tell you how much I seriously enjoyed this novel, it is by far my most favourite series by the author.Sets a cracking pace, and despite the number of chapters, was a remarkably quick read. Warm characters and an interesting psychological plot more than holds your attention. And don't forget the stunning reveal at the end flabbergasted!

    14. What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceiveYou are introduced to many characters and wonder as you read why. It all comes together towards the end. Great book couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Jack Ryder is a very likable and has a deep concern for justice. Can't wait to read the other 2 Jack Ryder books

    15. This book was awesome, I picked up in one my freebies and loved it. I've read all 4 books in this series and I'm my next one. I especially enjoy the fact that they all take place here in Florida so it's cool to read a chapter and know excatly where it is.

    16. Hit the Road JackOh, wow! This book was fantastic! It kept me wondering who the killer was until the last. I was almost biting my nails wondering what was going to happen next. I loved it!

    17. FantasticThoroughly enjoyable read sad to finish it I pay full price for Patterson\Deaver\Slaughter books and this author knocks out superb thrillers on par with books costing £15 x

    18. A really good thriller. This was a pretty good, fast read. I loved how all the characters merged together at the end, yet you didn’t see it coming. You suspected something, but was never quite sure. Don’t read this book before bed! That’s a compliment to the author.

    19. This book was disjointed in parts and it appeared to be rushed in its final chapters. It was a different kind of book for me, so I wanted to check out the author. I will finish the other two books to the trilogy to see if they improve. I hate to judge an author based solely on one book.

    20. I thoroughly joyed this book. Great characters and a great story line kept me wanting more. A detective takes on an intriguing case only to to find that it had an impact on his family. Highly recommend it.

    21. Good mysteryGiving it a 4 due to the smallbamountvof language. The killer was truly twisted and the plot exciting. Thank you

    22. Great suspense!!Very well written book!! What a nut job the killer is!! Definitely worth reading!! Love Jack and his big heart!!!

    23. Faulty time linesI don't know if it's me, or did Ms Rose forget where in time she was in regards to the children? Maybe it's just me. Otherwise it is an enjoyable tale.

    24. A good thriller with plenty of twists and turns in the plot, will look forward to reading more from the author

    25. Willow Rose debuts a new series, a new lead character, & a new setting all in one. Jack Ryder is the newest hero put to paper by Willow & he's an American, too. Cocoa Beach, Florida is where he calls home & this dashing detective does it all as a single dad/detective/surfer. Raising three kids alone, he relies on his parents to fill in when he's working so the kids spend a great deal of time at their grandparents' beachfront motel. Having transferred to Cocoa Beach from busy Miami, h [...]

    26. UnexpectedAfter having read Rebekka Franc series and Emma Frost I certainly was not expecting a series set in Florida. I was so excited when I finished the book and realised that I knew who the killer was the whole time. That never has happened!!!

    27. "I hate men who beat their wives more than anything I could think of." Jack is a single father of twins. Doing his best since his wife left them. Then he meets Samantha. But was he in over his head? She was still married after all. Shuffling fatherhood and work wasn't always easy. As detective in the small coastal town of Cocoa Beach, they needed his Miami expertise to help solve a string of murders that had recently taken place. As the crimes unwind, so do the skeletons in closets long left shu [...]
