    1. Another wonderful Christian fantasy! Daughter of Light by Morgan L. Busse was definitely a worthwhile read, and I look forward to continuing the series! When Rowen Mar discovers a strange mark on her hand and what it does to people, she is banished from her village - declared a witch. Bewildered and afraid, she travels far away; taking a position to protect a princess. And hopefully forget about her mark. But with Shadonae invading the west, and war brewing against the White City; Rowen must deci [...]

    2. That was one roller coaster of a ride. I haven't read a lot of Christian fantasy, but this was absolutely amazing. I'm still reeling from that ending, and I need the second book now. Full of adventure and action, this story kept me hooked the entire time, and I absolutely devoured it. The main characters were fleshed out incredibly well, and as for me, I liked the fact that there were multiple POV's because it allowed me to know each of the other characters better. I also really enjoyed how the [...]

    3. It does seem odd to rate one's own book. But given how I wrote the book and absolutely love it, thought I should give it a 5 star ;)

    4. Daughter of Light is the story of Rowen, a girl who was left on the doorstep of her adoptive home when she was a baby. When she reaches adulthood, right after her adoptive father's death, a strange thing happens. A white mark appears on her palm. With it comes power that frightens Rowen and ends in her banishment. She has nowhere to go, and takes her only option: a position as personal guard to a princess in the White City, where she is forced to use her powers and risk discovery when war is wag [...]

    5. This fantasy series centres around Rowen Mar, a young girl who is outcast from her village because of her unique powers, an upright Captain Lore with wild sea-blood in his veins, a dangerous assassin without a conscience called Caleb and a young scribe called Nierne.I found these characters hard to connect to at first but stuck with this mainly because it is from Enclave Publishing but also because of the quality of the writing. I would pick it up and put it down but about half way through I rea [...]

    6. I really enjoyed this book! I was pretty much hooked from the beginning. I really liked Rowen and was invested in her struggles and fears. I didn't really care for the love interest honestly, but he was a good character. Really interested in the assassin character and his journey through the book. Based on the ending of this book, I'm going to need to get the second in the series pretty quickly. :)A fascinating new world with varying cultures and beliefs. This is a terrific Christian fantasy tha [...]

    7. I cannot say how much I loved Daughter of Light. The whole time I was glued to the pages. Morgan Busse did a wonderful job creating a new world, full of amazing new characters. I loved how she creatively shared the gospel in her books. Giving a new look on how Jesus sacrificed his life for us, and how much he loves us. I loved all of the characters: Rowen, Lore, Neirne, Caleb, and the others. The story is told from the former four, so you get different experiences throughout the story.Rowen was [...]

    8. A great debut novel! Morgan creates a phenomenal world with an interesting backstory that comes to life on the page.

    9. Sometimes you pick up a book for the strangest reason, and then find yourself happy that you did so. This is one such time. I had spoken with Morgan L. Busse online and found the young wife and mother very approachable and kindly. Even though she didn't know me from Adam, she gave some good book recommendations to me, and was simply quite gracious. I found out she had a recently released book and bought it to read via Kindle format. I was initially trying to be nice and see if it was any good. I [...]

    10. I liked this book. It was an interesting read, but I only gave it three stars for content. The violence felt particularly Gory at times, and there was a few other instances of innuendo.

    11. Daughter of Light, the first in a series, is a good book, one fantasy readers will enjoy. The story takes some interesting twists. There is a strong Christian message, so readers not looking for truth that supersedes what we see here and now may not care for the story. Those like me who believe truth isn't complete unless it speaks to the imperishable and eternal, will be delighted with it. Here are my further thoughts about this book, re-posted from my blog.Daughter of Light, a fantasy novel by [...]

    12. As the Shadonae rise in the west and war threatens the north, a young woman discovers she is not human . . .Rowen Mar finds a strange mark on her hand, and she is banished from her village as a witch. She covers the mark with a leather glove and seeks sanctuary in the White City. She lives in fear that if she touches another person, the power inside her will trigger again, a terrifying power that allows her to see the darkness inside the human heart . . .But the mark is a summons, and those call [...]

    13. I stumbled across Morgan Busse's blog back in mid-2011 and was intrigued by the synopsis for Daughter of Light. The novel's premise sounded so refreshing compared to all the cliched Christian fantasy in the market at the time. I'm happy to say that Busse certainly didn't disappoint. At it's core, Daughter of Light chronicles the spiritual journey of Rowen Mar, who is clearly destined for larger things than living a small, meaningless life in her village. "The Word," Busse's representation of God [...]

    14. Rowen Mar is an orphan adopted into a village where she's not accepted. Her reputation sinks even deeper when a strange mark brands her as a witch and she's cast out of the only home she's known. She travels to the White City--a place she's never been, but the place her adoptive father has spent most of his life.d he's built a reputation. She arrives with hopes to become the varor to the princess--aka ferocious female bodyguard. Rowen is haunted by memories of when she accidentally touched a per [...]

    15. Oh my goodness! I can see why this book got nominated for a Christy Award last year! It is so very powerful and left me breathless with the allegorical messages that many times I had to reread (they were just that powerful)!I knew when I started reading “Daughter of Light” that I was in for adventure, but I didn’t realize how much of an adventure I was going to be getting! My heart went out Rowen and the pain she struggled with throughout her journey. At times it was very grievous and even [...]

    16. Daughter of light has so much potential. And I honestly love the message. It's the gospel, what can get any better than that? But I had a couple of issues and here they are. 1. I could not get over how much describing there was. Don't get me wrong! I love detailed descriptions that make you feel like you are truly there! But this was overkill. 2. I couldn't relate to the characters. I am no master swordswoman and I don't have magical powers. I understand that some characters you can't relate to [...]

    17. Daughter of Light is a beautiful beginning to what I know will be one of my favorite series! It follows a few main characters, giving us different points of view to different happening in this wonderful world that Ms. Busse has created for us. Rowen is a young woman who I saw grow before my eyes. She's burdened with a mark on her hand, called a witch, and luckily, exiled instead of burned at the stake. In her exile, she is granted a chance of becoming the varor to Lady Astrea of the White City. [...]

    18. Wonderful book! I love how this shows our Savior and His love for us and how He pursues us before we're aware of it. The author does a great job of also showing just how evil we really are and how we lie to ourselves about it so we don't have to deal with it. She shows how the Word shows us the Truth, and keeps showing us, and how that Truth then sets us free to be the person God intended us to be. We also see how scary trusting God is and how it's not just a one time decision but one we must ma [...]

    19. After one chapter I was hooked, hooked, hooked! Authors like Morgan L. Busse will make a fantasy reader out of me yet. I looked forward to every sitting where I read Daughter of Light, and that's saying something for me. She has created an imaginative fantasy world with so many awesome spiritual parallels to our own. Yet it's never heavy-handed. After finishing, I immediately went and bought the sequel, Son of Truth!

    20. I really enjoyed this story. Now I'm looking forward to the next in the series. So many unresolved story lines! It's fun to see some talented new voices in Christian fantasy. I believe the author's voice and the writing got stronger as the story progressed, so if you think it starts slow, stick with it. I think my favorite character so far is Caleb. Gotta love a good villain.

    21. I absolutely loved this book! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. At the end of every page I was excited to see what else was going to happen. This story has such wonderful twists and surprises. The only bad thing about this book is that it has an ending. I want more! Morgan Busse really knows what she's doing.

    22. An abandoned baby, that is who Rowen Mar was. It did not matter to her, she loves Jedrek and Ann Mar as if they are her real parents. Her father is a skilled swordsman and he teaches his young daughter his skills. “It’s good for a girl to know how to defend herself.” Then the sickness came and Rowen’s mother dies. Later on, she becomes sick as well. The recovery is a slow process and then Jedrek is called to war. Rowen misses him sorely, but she has friends in her village that she can co [...]

    23. This book has been on my TBR pile for quite some time. It had always looked intriguing to me. I'm not sure, though, that I will pick up the other two in the trilogy.First off - the story is good. It took a while for the action to get rolling, but being the first in a series, I knew there would be a lot of set-up. There is with any first book in a series. Of all the characters, I liked Caleb the best, but I have a thing about assassins. Rowen was all right for me. I didn't really care for her one [...]

    24. So I made it about half way before I decided I'd rather read something else. TBH I didn't look it up on other than to see the 4+ star rather on the google search results. I was looking through my library's overdrive offerings and it sounded interesting. The subject list on overdrive: Witches -- Fiction.Young adult fiction.Witches.Young adult fiction. So I figured some lighthearted YA reading would do just fine. I had no idea it was Christian Fantasy when I began reading. I struggled a bit with t [...]

    25. Daughter of Light is a Christian fantasy novel; well written both as a fantasy novel and with the allegory woven throughout. The novel stirred my interest early on and I could feel the build up of a bigger and more intriguing story being made. There are several characters, so this adds to the building up phase and the foundation of the story. So while the first half was good, the second half really took it up a notch. And in fact, has me eager to read the second novel. For those who like epic fa [...]

    26. Eager to read book 2!!I love that characters are flawed but lovable. I find myself having hope that even the worst of them will be redeemed because I care for them. This book is seriously cliffhanging in a few ways so be prepared with book #2! Now excuse me while I go read mine to see what happens next

    27. This is a new author for me. I loved this book and will be finishing the series (at some point). Good fantasy, great Christian story without being preachy or cheesy. The main characters are excellent. I give it five stars and can recommend for teens and up. No sexual content, or swearing, there is violence.

    28. Beautiful ReadTook me a while to pick up this book. I'd bought it ages ago, but was just sitting on my kindle. Very quick read, ( couldn't put it down) filled with great characters and spiritual truths. Can't wait to read the next one!

    29. CaptivatingA good read and I can't wait to read the next book. I look forward to reading the series repeatedly.
