1 thought on “Archie the Daredevil Penguin”

    1. Very humorous story about a penguin who is scared to swim, so he invents all sorts of contraptions to get him across the water, none of which work. Kids will definitely relate to Archie's fear and (hopefully) his perseverance.

    2. Great message, very funny, and super cute! I love this book but I'm unsure of how it could translate for storytime. There are a lot of great onomatopoetic moments the kids could join in on, but it is often a challenge to group read books with so many speech bubbles.

    3. How has this book not been in my life? Oh my goodness! I loved every minute of this book. It was so cute and so funny. It was like they turned Evel Knievel into a penguin. Perfection! A must read for all daredevil people out there.

    4. Archie is very cute, and I love that he fears the thing that's so natural to penguins, while wants to fly, which is so unnatural for penguins. He doesn't choose to confront his fears, but he is confronted with his fears and shows that courage isn't feeling confident, it's being scared but not letting that overcome you.

    5. There are parts of this book, reading it as a storytime presenter, that I just don't know what to think of. My mouth was hanging open in shock while still loving it. I greatly enjoyed the book. I'm not quite sure about using it in preschool storytime. Perhaps in a school-age one. Fun lap-read for school-age, too.9/21/16 Used in Penguin preschool theme. I have a very small crowd. And most were new to preschool ST (but have seen them in Toddler). So we're on a "learning curve" for them. Especially [...]

    6. Loved this one! I have a soft spot for books with snarky/tongue-in-cheek narration. Archie the Daredevil Penguin is afraid of water and the strange creatures who lurk in the briny deep but he doesn't want anyone to know that, so he sets about finding a way to fly over to the fish fry on Iceberg Nine. His slingshot, giant wings, and rocket meet with little to no success, but eventually, he discovers a rather unorthodox method of flight and that swimming might not be as terrifying as he originally [...]

    7. I am in total awe of this book! How can it be so funny, so clever, and so full of heart. PLUS it has the best book trailer song ever. You should totally go find the book trailer. And also get this book! ARCHIE THE DAREDEVIL PENGUIN is highly recommended for anyone who likes fun and silly, ridiculous and goofy, and heroes you want to applaud for. PLUS almost certain death, that turns out to not be death at all, in the most silly possible way.Again, I'm in awe. I'm studying this as a mentor text f [...]

    8. The boldly-colored, comic-styled full-bleed double spread pages will make this a winner with even the youngest, but the text seems geared to older readers (including parents). I can see this popping up in older classrooms to consider techniques for writing humor and well as discussing the ways in which we sometimes endanger ourselves by denying fears or a sense of incompetence. Archie seems to b=me to be a very adolescent penguin, but is a charmer indeed.

    9. Archie the Daredevil Penguin has a big name to live up to. He cannot show his friends that he is afraid so what can he do?Every human faces their fear at some time in their life. They just don't always conquer that fear. What does Archie do? You will have to read it and find out. This is wonderful picture book about friendship and courage and kindness. Written and illustrated by Andy Rash. Published by Viking Books.

    10. This is a wonderful addition for storytimes about facing one's fears, especially if it's swimming for the first time. Archie is a charismatic penguin who has managed to fool everyone about his real fear, hiding behind his bravado & daredevil stunts. Kids will cheer him on & empathize with his plight. Bold artwork helps deliver this story & characters. Highly recommended.

    11. ARCHIE THE DAREDEVIL PENGUINSome books just have it ALL! Well, this one is one of 'em! There is no way not to love and root for determined Archie and his daredevil determination to fly. Nothing stops him! The story and illustrations are perfectly executed for a story that's sure to please and entertain readers of ALL ages :)

    12. A cutely told and drawn story of a penquin who does brave things all the time but can't swim. Then he learns to overcome his fear and wants to swim more.A good book about being brave to overcome something you are afraid of doing.

    13. A penguin afraid of swimming? No way! Archie tries to show everyone he's not afraid with his dare devil attempts to fly but, really, he's trying to bluster his way out of swimming because he's afraid of the creatures in the briny deep.

    14. A brave little penguin who is secretly afraid of swimming attempts to fly. He learns to soar in the most surprising place.

    15. Archie is unlike other penguins He doesn't like to swim! Can he ever make it to iceberg 9 like the other penguins. Told in speech bubbles.

    16. overcoming your fears kind of story - does anyone else thing the penguin friends are kinda mean about Archie's fear of swimming?

    17. This book was great! It was a lot of fun to do different voices for all of the penguins. We enjoyed how all of the dialogue was presented comic-book style, too.

    18. Really funny book about a daredevil penguin disguising his fears. Rapid dialogue provides characterization and humor throughout.

    19. Funny, cute, and deep! One can learn truths about the human spirit from a picture book. This one certainly teaches about honesty, taking chances, and trusting yourself.

    20. Very entertaining story of a brave little penguin who has one secret fear. One question - why are they grilling their fish at a fish fry? This really kinda bothered me.
