    1 thought on “Chance Harbor”

    1. If you’re lucky, life will hand you a second chance. And if you’re smart, and nimble enough to get out of your own way, you’ll take it. In Chance Harbor, Holly Robinson shows us just how difficult it can be to move beyond entrenched behaviors and attitudes, to see the world afresh and gamble of the golden hope of tomorrow. It might even be impossible. The characters here have edges, and secrets galore. The mom plays favorites (as did the dad, now deceased). One sister is straight and good, [...]

    2. Eve, Catherine, Zoe, and Willow. Grandmother, mother, daughters, and granddaughter all caught up in family secrets. All four women had a lot going on over the years that made today difficult for each one of them.Join in the suspense as well as the family saga that will pull at your heart strings and make you want to be with the charactersANCE HARBOR takes us through the years with Eve, Catherine, Zoe, and Willow. Willow was my favorite. She is sweet but wise. Zoe made me crazy. Eve and Catherine [...]

    3. Contemporary women’s fiction at its best, author Holly Robinson excels at emotional storytelling that teaches lessons in forgiveness. When one event after another unravels this family, you’ll root for their success as well as dread what may happen next, all the while hoping the book will never end. Recommended Read!Widow Eve MacLeish is cleaning out her summer home on Prince Edward Island in order to sell it, when she meets Darcy MacDougall with his sexy Scottish brogue and his dog Bear. 4. This is a wonderful book that explores family dynamics. We have two sisters that are complete opposites, a mother who thinks she will be alone for the rest of her life and a granddaughter who clings to her aunt when her mother abandons her in a bus station. So realistic, set in Canada this story is a surprise from Start to finish. I would never have predicted the twists in the family but it's brilliant.

    5. I was excited to get an advance copy of Chance Harbor and had high expectations after reading The Wishing Hill and Beach Plum Island. This book exceeded my expectations. Kudos to Holly Robinson once again. Robinson has a way of plucking me out of my midwestern life and plunking me down in Massachusetts, and in this novel, on Prince Edward Island as well. These are places I've never been but at Robinson's skilled hands these settings are vivid and personal to me. This story, like Robinson's other [...]

    6. I was lucky enough to get a advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. I LOVED IT!First, it is my favorite book cover of 2015. Next, it has exactly what I love in a book- it gets your attention by page 2 and then you can't stop. I finished it at midnight last night.I love that the title is "Chance Harbor" as the book is about second chances for nearly every character in the book. The symmetry of each character having a new chance is brilliantly written.Bravo Holly Robins [...]

    7. Chance Harbor is an honest, gritty portrayal of a family as they come to terms with deception, dishonesty, hurt, and anger. It is the story primarily of two sisters, Catherine and Zoe, and their mother Eve. Five years earlier, Zoe abandoned her 10-year-old daughter, Willow, at a Boston bus station, and from that point on Catherine and her husband Russell become Willow's legal guardian, effectively her parents in both their eyes and Willow's. Eve has recently lost her own husband, and is making p [...]

    8. I just finished reading Holly Robinson's Chance Harbor, and I have to say -- read it! Such a beautiful and multi-layered story of a complicated family and the women who hold it together, sometimes just barely but ultimately with success. There are mysteries, too. And now I need to visit Prince Edward Island, too. A fabulous read.

    9. Catherine and Zoe, two sisters who look like each other but couldn’t be more different, are now separated. Zoe, the rebel in the family who did drugs, dropped out of school and more, ran away, leaving her daughter Willow with Catherine and Russell. The latter seemed like the proverbially successful, married couple but are now separate as well, Russell having sired a father by his high school student Noel. Catherine is having a hard time coping with it all, especially in light of the fact that [...]

    10. This is a full, rich book that is sure to satisfy women’s fiction lovers a hundred times over! I more than loved this book, and you know how much I LOVE women’s fiction! I was in my glory! This book is extremely character driven, which I love, too. Every character is unique and great in their own way, and you know with a character driven book there are going to be a lot of ups and downs with all the characters. Yes, that did happen in this book. The characters had very active and full lives, [...]

    11. Who says sisters have to be best friends? Zoe and Catherine are definitely not best friends, they are not even friends. Yet, they have a relationship. Catherine and her husband are the legal guardians of Zoe’s daughter. The dynamics in this family is unique. Catherine was closest to her father. Zoe was her mother’s favorite. Within this family, with every member of this family, there are secrets. Deep secrets, scary secrets, and very personal secrets. I love how Holly Robinson did not just l [...]

    12. I really enjoyed this story and would like to see a second one continuing the lives of these characters.

    13. I really enjoyed this book But was disappointed that all the other relationships didn't "finish"/

    14. This is the first book I've read by Holly Robinson, but I will definitely be looking for others by this author. This story of the dynamics between siblings and parents was complex with many unexpected twists. The book is set in Massachusetts and Prince Edward Island and even mentioned New Brunswick. :) Initially I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the book; the prologue left me struggling to figure out the connections to the characters in chapter one, but before long I was hooked. I had a very ha [...]

    15. Complicated, but beautifuljust like life!I loved the characters and the setting. Prince Edward Island holds a special place in my heart, so I enjoyed that much of the book was set there. The family dynamics were complicated, just like real life, but they worked through them in their own way. I enjoy reading about strong women and women who strive to know themselves and go after what they want. Great bookI highly recommend it!

    17. This is one of those books that made my life miserable. I hated having to put it down, and the bad moods caused by needing to work or feed my family rather than read caused endless fun for friends, loved ones, and my students. (I will admit, since we're all friends and you won't tell on me, that I gave assignments that would keep my students busy so that I could read while they worked. Yes. I did.)Catherine and Zoe are sisters, but aside from blonde hair and a shared bloodline, that's about all [...]

    18. Novels like this one prompt an evaluation from me on two levels. From a quality standpoint, everything is stellar. Character development, descriptions that put me right in the moment, marvelously complicated relationships that I feared would never get sorted–all of that is there in spades. On top of this, the author holds it all together with her deft handling of story complexity, the narrative flowing from one scene to the next, into and out of various characters’ viewpoints. Plus, there we [...]

    19. This is a truly great book. I loved every minute of it, and I am so happy I decided to read it. Chance Harbor met all my criteria for an amazing read: a plot that kept me reading, very flawed but lovable characters, and great language and description. Every minute I had to spare was spent reading the book. I needed to know what happened between Eve and her husband. Robinson shows off her writing skills by making Eve and her husband engaging and amiable even though they had a somewhat rocky marri [...]

    20. Sisters, Secrets, Rivals, for Love, December 20, 2015 By Carol BoyerVerified Purchase This review is from: Chance Harbor A beautifully written novel of many secrets that evokes deep, poignant emotions about two sisters, Catherine and Zoe as unlike as oil and water, yet born of the same mother, Eve. Catherine is practical, realistic, and Zoe passionate, and reckless. Catherine and her husband Russell are legal guardians of ten year old Willow, since being left at a bus stop by her mother Zoe. Zoe [...]

    21. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Another Favorite author to announce! Holly Robinson gives us an absolutely superb woman’s fiction novel, that you will not be able to put down. I looked her up after finishing her book and noted all six of her books…d added them to my to-read list. The tale is told between the cities of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Chance Harbor, Prince Edward Island. The tapestry in the background involving the landscape and feel of each locati [...]

    22. I really struggled with how to rate this book.Chance Harbor is a solid, well-paced story about how lies, bad choices, and troubled relationships can crumble the foundation of a family. The book also introduced me to Prince Edward Island, which is a place that had never been on my radar before, and I loved that. The writing is highly readable and engaging, and supporting characters are as fleshed out as the main characters. However, I found myself hating most of the characters a little more with e [...]

    23. Catherine and Zoe are two sisters who are exact opposites. Responsible Catherine becomes legal guardian to “wild” Zoe’s illegitimate child, Willow, after Zoe disappears one night. For five years Catherine, Willow and Catherine’s mother, Eve, have wondered what happened to Zoe and have given up hope of ever hearing from her again. In the meantime, they’ve had to deal with death and infidelities of their own and all three of them feel their lives slowly spiraling out of control.Everythin [...]

    24. I felt like I'd been reading this book for the past two years, but turns out, it was less than a week. It just felt endless. There are a ton of deep and buried family secrets here, which is always interesting, but it just overall dragged. One of the storylines, Eve's, in particular really didn't do anything for me, and I kind of felt it seemed disjointed from the rest of the book. The other issue I noticed? A lot of telling rather than showing -- too much was spelled out, I thought, almost as if [...]

    25. I am conflicted. This was undoubtedly a flawlessly written book, fast paced, complex and demanding---but it wasn't really for me. Much too much drama. The author is first rate. She wove together a multifaceted story that seemed to really follow through. The only problem is that I read to excape and this story was much too demanding, too heart renching for the excape that I crave.Still, for readers who love endless drama you will not be dissapointed with Chance Harbor, and it is for these people t [...]

    26. I really enjoyed this book a lot. There were several smaller plots happening as well as the main storyline. My only complaint is that there were smaller stories and even some larger stories that seemed to get lost along the way. Two in particular irked me. One feels like a loose end, and the other feels like the author just kind of forgot to get back to it. I don't feel done with these characters and would welcome a 2nd part.

    27. Finished Chance Harbor last nite, wonderfully written love of a mother for her two girls. Mistakes made, chances taken, afraid one is lost forever. Then the healing begins, and truth admitted, everyone finds forgiveness. Such a great story! Love, late in life is wonderful, finding a new "someone" to see you through rough times. When is the next one coming out!! By the way I have read most of Holly's books, loved everyone!!!!
