    1. this is the second prequel to the series that I have listened to as a freebie from audible. I have not read the series at this point. I notice that this prequel story hasn't had good reviews but also note that the series itself gets increasingly higher ratings as people read through the various volumes. The story is well read by Imogen Church who does well to convey the sense of menace - I'm not normally a lover of female narrators who often are pitched too high but Imogen Church is a good one

    2. This was quite a dissatisfying read. It's short and almost immediately there's extreme violence to two women, which is particularly distressing. Does not entice me to read the rest of the series.

    3. It's pretty obvious this is meant as a near-time prequel to the full-length fantasy novel "The Relic Guild", by the same author. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as interesting as it could have been, and in some ways I find it extremely off-putting. To have violence against two women within such a short piece, one kidnapped and tortured while the other is casually murdered, says a lot about both the author and the universe for which the short story was written. Women in refrigerators, anyone? If t [...]

    4. Accomplished narrator. Interesting world building. Poor story.Supposedly serving as a teaser prequel, this tale does not inspire me to seek out the rest of the series.

    5. The story was slightly lacking but the narration was skillfully written and made up for it. It definitely made me want to have a gander at the rest of the series.

    6. an enjoyable little audiobook that was juat long enough for me to listen to during a train journey. it has me particularly intiugued for the main series
