    1. As I write this, I'm on day nine of the sugar detox. With a more than normal attraction to sugar, I've tried many diets & cleanses to rid myself of the cravings for sweets & other carbohydrates. Until reading the 21-day Sugar Detox, I just followed the steps and did pretty well, but eventually found myself back in the thick of things with my favorite comfort foods. I feel really good physically and seem to find myself more mentally alert than a typical day brings. I believe my current su [...]

    2. Fabulous! It's so nice to have what was previously an e-book in a print version. This book will be out at the end of this month (October 2013). I have a pre-release copy because I've helped the author out on her Facebook page and now on the Balanced Bites forums. I recommend the 21-Day Sugar Detox to anyone who wants to "just step away from the sugar." This is no gimmicky pre-packaged food or shake program. This is a whole foods based way of eating that retrains your taste buds and stabilizes yo [...]

    3. I have just started my second 21 day sugar detox, the first time I did it without the actual book (I just used the yes/no list and made my own meal plan). I had just had a baby and needed to lose quite a few pounds. It went hand and hand with me transitioning to the Paleo lifestyle. It was difficult in the beginning, but really worth it! I lost about 25 pounds and I really did "bust the sugar cravings." It is kind of amazing how dependent we are on sugar. I didn't really consider myself that muc [...]

    4. If you already know how to eat healthy, yet you still have trouble kicking sugar, this book is a waste of money. Probably all books on kicking sugar will be a waste it's just not that complicated. You can do it gradually, or you can do it cold turkey. The end.If you don't know how to eat healthy, this book is a decent place to start, although there are far more clearly written and laid out books. Eating healthy will help you kick sugar, it's true, because your body won't be starved for proper nu [...]

    5. I'm just about to embark on the 21 day sugar detox. I read through the book and the recipes look amazing! I already follow semi close to level 1 with a few more treats than I probably need so I'm excited to challenge myself and see how I feel at the end after follow level 3.

    6. Really informative and a lot of recipes. I’m starting next week, though it may be rough since I don’t eat animal products. I still learned a lot and recommend it!

    7. Okay book, some interesting concepts but still feel like this, along with a whole host of diet books, are just part of a fad.

    8. If you know me at all, you know that I have a love/hate relationship with sweets. Whether we're talking about candy, chocolate, baked treats, or ice cream I am a sucker for it all. I was curious about Sanfilippo's book after reading the success stories of those who were able to overcome their sugar addiction with the help of her 21-day detox, and I had high hopes that it would banish my own cravings and jumpstart a new routine of post-holiday healthy eating habits. Well, it did Sort of.For eleve [...]

    9. I'm not rating this book yet because I haven't tried the program or made any of the recipes.I've been looking for a program/meal plan to help me cut out sugar for a certain period of time so I can be more aware of how much I'm eating. This was one of the only ones I found that didn't encourage artificial sweeteners. The idea behind this program is similar to the Whole30, which I hated, with two important differences:1. There are 3 different "levels" of the 21 Day Sugar Detox. Level 3 is the most [...]

    10. I love this book because it includes so many easy to make, sugar-less, paleo recipes. Instructions are straightforward and clear for the most part. Recipes I've tried and enjoyed include: veggie pancakes (I make these all the time), pumpkin pancakes, all of her chicken recipes, greek and asian style meatballs (I make these all the time with either turkey, lamb, or pork), ginger-garlic beef & broccoli, lemon & garlic noodles with olives, applesauce, and not-sweet cinnamon cookies (love'em [...]

    11. The 21-Day Sugar Detox follows much of the same premise as Paleo but with added emphasis on eliminating sugar from your diet. There are three levels of the plan and the reader determines his or her level by taking a short quiz. Food lists and meal plans are provided for each level. Also included are the recipes for said meal plans. The information as presented is informative but not over the top with detail. I have made several recipes and haven't been disappointed yet. I was impressed with the [...]

    12. I'm going to do the 21DSD. It's a lighter version of Whole30, which I've already done before. This book explains the biology of how carbohydrates affect your metabolism. If you read this type of book before (like Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar--Your Brain's Silent Killers, or It Starts with Food: Discover the Whole30 and Change Your Life in Unexpected Ways you've gotten this explanation before. This book does it without being preachy. The meal plans are the most [...]

    13. Great program for anyone that has a serious sugar addiction! i.e. everyone breathing, haha! I have basically done this with going low carb, high fat (good fats), and high protein. There are a lot of great recipes for low carb and low sugar/sweet desserts. Everything is Paleo friendly (meaning no grains, legumes, etc.) There are 3 levels in the program and the author gives special considerations for athletes, pregnant & nursing moms, etc. I like books like this that go into detail about how s [...]

    14. I probably should wait until I actually finish this 21 day detox before I rate it but there are a few things I struggled with in this book. 1. Way too many meat recipe options in this plan. 2. The meal plans will not work for vegetarians. Not geared toward a vegetarian at all, only pescetarians and omnivores. Even so, there should be more seafood/fish recipes. I have not read the separate cookbook so maybe it has more of a variety. 3. Not enough talk of what to do after the 21 days. I feel like [...]

    15. Monday will start my third time doing the 21-day sugar detox. I find it to be a helpful reset when I've become a little lax in my healthful eating habits. This is the first time I have read the book along with the detox; I've always done it with just the online info I've found before. I did find some additional information in the books - the meal plans and supplements will be a great addition to my detox. Overall, this is a great plan, without any crazy diets, to put or, or reset you, into a low [...]

    16. I love reading cookbooks, and especially love when I find new recipes that I add into my 'regular' meal plan. The 21DSD is excellently written. It is very informative and not too much in scientific overload. The layout keeps you reading and turning the pages for more. AND the recipes are excellent. This book is helpful, encouraging and highly recommended. I started the 21DSD without this book and bought it on Day 4. You need to buy it in the beginning, even at the price point. Extremely helpful [...]

    17. I've been swindled by a pretty picture before, but this takes the sugar free cake. The pictures are what usually draws me to a cookbook. The recipes seemed to fit my lifestyle and I had most of the ingredients on hand. The problem: little to no spices used in the recipes. If you take our sugar and salt, you have to replace it with something that will make it palatable. Who wants to eat a diet of bland foods unless they are in a hospital? I did a couple of the recipes an tweaked them a bit to add [...]

    18. Great book with plenty of amazing information. I feel as though this could be a great, effective program for someone wanting to kick the sugar habit. However, it reads similarly to another program I was unsuccessful with and doesn't currently fit within my budget in terms of having to buy specialty products at this time. I think I'll go back to a program I've used in the past that worked well for me. That being said, I believe I learned some great information and I plan to use some of the recipe [...]

    19. I'm going to start this soon, but based on reading. I really like what she has to say, and the fact that she is a holistic nutritionist for some reason holds more credence for me than other things. It's all whole foods, not diets, no drinks, no crap to buy. Just good decision making. Just for that along with Hello Major Sugar Addict here.I'm going to give this a try Starting the first week in April.

    20. Easy to read. Information I have gotten elsewhere too. Looks like it would be impossible to do this as a vegetarian. However, as soon as we move into our next house the first shopping trips will be with her online shopping lists in hand so I don't fill cupboards with 'bad' food, and then when the kitchen appliances are all unpacked off we go:). I love books that lay plans out with exactly what to buy and what to eat so I don't have to figure it out, although there is room for adjustments.

    21. I'm always searching for different healthy meals to try. This book contains many delicious-looking recipes, and the program has a nice map clearly explaining what to eat every day - although many recipes fall back on some combo of egg, bacon, beef, sausage and whole fat dairy, which is concerning for people dealing with cholesterol issuesbut I guess you can only troubleshoot one problem at a time. I'll probably skip this one.

    22. This is not my favorite book of recipes, however, it does give lots of ideas for food options because during a sugar detox you need options!!! It also addresses diet alternatives for those who may be dealing with auto-immune issues, I found this to be especially helpful because it really limits your choices on what you can eat and then you have to figure out what to do with the foods that are left to eat! She helps you do that.

    23. This book is a great guide to getting your taste buds and your mind off the sugar cycle and free yourself from cravings. The recipes in the back are amazing. I love how after you don't get sugar for a week and I could eat chocolate pudding with no sugar or sweetener and I loved it and didn't miss the sugar. I only made it about half way through the 21 days though :( I am planning on trying again in March. It is really more mental than anything.

    24. Two words - zucchini noodles!! Love love love! Healthy eating, easy recipes. Different levels and daily success log. Haven't officially tried the 21 days but taken their substitute list and started incorporating it into my grocery order and meal planning. This book was not just a recipe book or a diet book. It was like the best university class textbook ever!! So informative that I added it to my children's homeschooling health curriculum :)

    25. I haven't tried the program yet (or even decided if I'm actually going to do it.) But the book does offer some interesting information and tips for healthier eating. If you're interested, you can find my full review here: findabrightside/2

    26. I loved this book so much, I became a certified 21DSD coach :) it's completely in alignment with what I teach my patients, I wish I wrote it myself. Plus the recipes are great, you won't feel deprived when doing the detox. The best part is that the program is all whole foods, no shakes or powders, so you will have habits developed that you can carry on with after the detox.

    27. This book and meal plan worked well for me. The most important side effect of following this plan was learning awareness of the unbelievable amount of added sugar i consumed on a daily basis. The recipes were excellent, and tasty for the whole family. Loved the substitution of cauliflower for potatoes and rice. So delicious!
