1 thought on “Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch”

    1. This portrait of Marilyn Monroe is part fiction/part fact. Millions of words have already been written about her, but such is her allure that anything new about her draws readers like a magnet. The author, Dr. Alma Bond, in the guise of Dr. Darcy Dale one assumes, did treat Marilyn over a period of several years, but what part of the reported analysis is real and what is imagined we can only guess at.However, Marilyn had a fascination for men and women alike and why women would like her somethin [...]

    2. Marilyn has always been an enigma to me, as well as many other people. How did she get to Marilyn from Norma Jean? Was she really a dumb blonde, or was it just an act? Did she really want to kill herself? “On the Couch” does a tremendous job trying to answer these questions! What makes “On the Couch” different from the usual biography is that it is written from the fictional viewpoint of Marilyn herself. Reading about her thoughts and feelings in first person makes you feel more connected [...]

    3. Famous for her beauty, her acting, her legendary marriages and affairs with the Kennedys, Marilyn Monroe had it all. Or did she?Beginning life in squalor and orphaned at a young age, she seemed to struggle to find her own place in the world. One of the most beloved figures of our time, she will always remain the enigma of her own doom. In Marilyn Monroe, On The Couch by Alma H. Bond, Ph. D we are voyeurs of a very private woman, one who lived so much more on the inside than on the outside. The d [...]

    5. I recently came across the book “Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch” and I was immediately compelled to request it for review. I mean really… Who wouldn't? Who among us, knowing about the tragic death of one of world’s biggest superstars, a larger than life beauty of a woman who was way ahead of her time, would not be at least curious about this title?I received my copy several days later, and I sat down to read. “Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch” is a fictional tale in the sense that author, [...]

    6. Marilyn Monroe died a few months before I was born, but her popularity has lasted all of my life. She was always sensuous and glamorous, and the camera loved her even in her drugged-up final years. Because there have been hundreds of books and articles written about this complicated, intelligent woman, including theories about her death, I wasn't sure there was anything else that could be added. I even wondered if this book would be an invasion of Marilyn's privacy, even though she's been dead 5 [...]

    7. Analysis without personal therapy sessions? If this story had been written as fiction about a fictional character, it would certainly warrant five stars as it is well written and fascinating. But it is not. Quoting the author, “Although factual information form the core of Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch, this book is a work of fiction and is not necessarily a complete or historically accurate rendering of Marilyn Monroe’s life. This work draws upon some of the published details of Marilyn Monro [...]

    8. I'm not sure what I was expecting, and it was a well written book, but I felt let down and sad for Marilyn as I read the book. Which I suppose is what happens when the truth as told by her psychoanalyst is told. When I was a child every little girl wanted to be her, and as it turns out her life was pretty darn sad. Which should be expected seeing how it ended. This is a book everyone will have to make up their own mind on. I received my copy from .

    9. Many factual errors, several dumb typos and anachronisms. I found the first-person narration trite and the ham-handed "letters" portion at the end made me sorry I spent time on this book. Not this true blue MM book fan's cup of tea.

    10. If the great Marilyn Monroe is one of you film heros this is a book that should interest you. Marilyn Monroe On The Couch give you insight as to the inner feelings of a great actress.
