    1. This follows the same vein as the Katie Kazoo series. The realistic story has a magical item that transforms the main character in a unique way. While Katie Kazoo has more of a Freaky Friday magical twist, this one has a rambunctious puppy that gets transported by a magical bone to another location. He bites his bone and ends up in cheer-i-o London. Except everyone is crabby and the cute pooch, Sparky, gets tossed into the dog pound with a bunch of bully bulldogs. He makes friend with a small do [...]

    2. Sparky is a hyper little puppy who can't control his tail or his paws. They are always getting him into mischief. After causing a few too many catastrophes inside his "two-legged's" house, he is put out in the yard. Here he discovers the most amazingly smelly bone of his life. But one crunch of the bone and something happens to poor Sparky. He is transported to a different part of the world where he embarks on a series of crazy adventures. Somehow he must find his way back home and make things r [...]

    3. In the book "Magic Bone", Sparky causes some mischief in Josh's house that he is sent outside. While out in his backyard, Sparky finds a bone underneath the tree. As he bites into it he is transported to London England where he goes on many adventures. Sparky is running around the streets of London and is picked up by the dogcatcher and sent to the pound. He encounters some scary bulldogs, but finds a friend named Watson. They make a plan to escape the pound and help Sparky return home. The dogs [...]

    4. "Be Careful What You Sniff For" is a great early chapter book for third graders focusing on the troublemaking dog named Sparky. Sparky isn't the most poised of pups and quickly finds himself getting into mischief almost immediately. The only difference this time is that Sparky has found a magical bone that teleports him to London after he bites it. What chaos will Sparky bring to this newfound land, and what kind of trouble will Sparky get himself into this time? Why was Sparky sent to the backya [...]

    5. This is the first book in the Magic Bone series by Nancy Krulik. The story is a fun fast read and a magic bone takes Sparky to London, England. There are numerous black and white cartoonish illustrations throughout the book and they complement the story nicely. Our girls weren't too excited about this book (or the next one in the series), so I just read them myself. I am sure they feel like they've outgrown this level of story. sighey grow up so quickly.

    6. Cute series about a magic bone that transports Sparky to another place whenever he bites it. In this book Sparky goes to London. Obviously told from the perspective of the dog, and it is interesting to see cultural icons from that perspective, which probably is not that different from that of a child. For example, wouldn't you think Covent Garden would be more like Central Park? Not too difficult in terms of reading level and there are facts about each place included at the end of each book.

    7. This series has been pretty popular at our libraries, so I gave book 1 a read. Sparky is this hyper dog who lives with his human Josh. When Sparky bites a magic bone that transports him to London, he must make his way back to Josh but only after he makes a go for the queen's sausage. When he gets caught by a dog catcher, things get complicated. Bottom line: I thought it was pretty lame, but it's a hit with kids, so kudos - and extra stars - for that. Good transitional chapter book format with la [...]

    8. This is a good beginning chapter book. The pictures help t he reader follow the story. It's written from the puppy's perspective which might make it difficult for younger readers who are not able to process abstract thought. However the story is written simply and the story is easy to follow. I would day this would be good for a 1st grader who is a good reader through 3rd grade. I can see older children being bored by the story.

    9. This short chapter book is easy to read, has cute illustrations, and will most likely be popular with many students. The story is told from the perspective of a young dog, Sparky. Students are always requesting books about dogs so I am ready to suggest this one to my students!

    10. These are fun and episodic books, perfect for that second grader who greatly objects to lots of words with no pictures. (Which is EXACTLY where my son is at the moment, argh!) My 7 year old devours these, whereas we never really had any luck with Magic Treehouse.

    11. Fans of dogs/puppies will enjoy this story told from the perspective of Sparky the pup. Overall the story was cute, there were a few things that didn't sit quite right with me - particularly the way Sparky would criticize himsself (his paws, tail knocking things down, etc).

    12. I think students will enjoy Sparky's peppy personality and how he tells the whole story. The idea of time transporting yourself magically will be appealing.

    13. A cute little tale for 2nd/3rd graders. Sparky gets a magic bone that allows him to travel to London.

    14. This early chapter book tells a fun story including a dog, a magic bone and a grand adventure. Where dog books are popular, this book will find a good home.

    15. Difficult to follow at first, written from dog's point of view. Different topic for early chapter book material.

    16. megan spring reading 2016, children's book, chapter book, series, magic bone, dogs, sci fi, humor, cute, travel, london, first grade, read aloud, second grade, third grade

    17. I would suggest this a good early reader series because it has humor, world travel, cartoonish, good quality illustrations andever wonder what a hyper active dog is thinking? hehe

    18. So cute! Loved the transportation, fantasy aspect. And the point of view storytelling from the dog was very clever. Zoey also loved it. I may have caught her flipping through the pages and "reading" the story of Sparky to her stuffed animals.
