    1. I loved the idea of a paranormal set in Africa as well as set just after WWI. This was a fine piece of story telling about two men who are both emotionally scarred and who find each other out on the lonely, beautiful African veldt.Ash Haywood comes to Rhodesia with his overbearing father to visit his father's brother and engage in a bout of hunting. Ash has no taste for killing the beautiful wild animals for trophies, but his brutal father and uncle seek to drive this 'weak' streak out of him. A [...]

    2. Different from a lot of the stories out there. I haven't come across many m/m stories set in Africa and out of those that I have I am pretty sure 99% of them were set in Egypt (and most of those in ancient Egypt). The time is also one that is less-frequently seen, set a bit after World War I (more frequently seen than non-Egyptian m/m stories, perhaps, but still fairly rare). While it is a shifter story, I hesitate to actually label it shifter as, for me at least, that has certain connotations t [...]

    3. The writing was good, the story interesting, the setting was vivid, but I just couldn't get into it as much as I'd have liked. It just needed something more. More explanation? More plot? Less sex? The how and why of Ash's shifting isn't fully explained. I would have liked a better resolution there. One moment Ash says he doesn't remember his mother, then another moment he's recalling the things they used to do together and how old he was when she died. Some things just niggled at me. Otherwise, [...]

    4. 3.5 I don't normally read shifter books but I was drawn to this one by the setting and timeline. I enjoyed it, for the most part. Ms. Roman's imagery is vivid and I could easily imagine myself in that beautiful setting. However, I was left with too many questions about Ash and his shifting. It wasn't explained. For those of us who know nothing about shape shifters (I know, I'm in the minority), a little clarification would have been nice.

    5. Africa is the mysterious and compelling setting for this story, and the shifting by the main character, Ash, is left shadowy and only partly explained, the rest given up to the spiritual roots of Africa's past. The plot has some action, and lots of hot sex, but the flavor of Africa runs through it all, and left me with a desire to go there and see for myself.
