    1. My niece and nephew generally don't seem to care much for rhyming stories. Mik's Mammoth is a story that is told in rhyme, but it is so elegantly executed that I don't think the kids even noticed! Roy Gerrard does a masterful job of creating stories in rhyme, and he does so without resorting to the Seussian method of fabricating words. The vocabulary in Gerrard's stories is wonderful--at several points one or the other of the children stopped me and asked me to define a word for them. I love it [...]

    2. I loved the illustrations and soothing colours. A very pleasant change to bright primary colours that shout for attention. The rhyming text was delightful.A book with taste.

    3. Mik is looked down upon by the other prehistoric humans because he's easily scared and doesn't like hunting. One day, they head off not realizing they have left him behind. Mik befriends a mammoth and through diligence, intelligence, and hard-work manages to flourish in the absence of his companions. Eventually they return and find themselves indebted to Mik who they make their new leader.Beautiful illustrations.

    4. Not sure why I suddenly remembered reading this book as a child, but what the heck. I liked the pictures and since I was into ice age animals at the time, the visuals were good.

    5. Really cute book about a cave boy and how he proves himself. The boys enjoyed it. I've like all the books I have read by this author.
