    1. The term “Islamic art” is a contentious one. Is it limited to art produced for religious purposes or with a religious content? Is it a geographical label applicable to any and all artifacts from countries with a predominantly Islamic culture? Must the artist be Muslim in order for his or her work to be considered an “Islamic” artwork?
