    1. This was the stories/diaries of New Zealand's men and women who were in the NZ WWI effort. This was a very powerful view of the trials they all faced at the not so wise calls of their British CO's. This is well worth the read and I found it even more so inspiring, as I could relate to their Gallipoli experience (in a minute, safe way); I had just been to ANZAC Day Gallipoli 2016 - amazing. 2. A wonderful insight in to the lives of New Zealand soldiers. Ray's past as an archivist gives this book a real depth. I recommend this to my 100 level students interested in NZ experiences in World War One - perhaps every New Zealander should read it.
